MOS particles attach to pathogens so they can no longer attach to receptors in the intestinal wall, keeping the body safe from effect of toxins, and leaving receptors free. Mannan oligosaccharides competitively bind the pathogens and prevent them from adhering to the intestinal wall of animals. In addition, mannans are unable to be digested by pathogens, including intestinal pathogens, and the resultant tightly bound pathogen-mannan complex can be excreted from the host.
